Blue Lagoon (Vanuatu)

My visit to Blue Lagoon is one of the most memorable experiences I have from my time in Vanuatu. Conveniently located right outside the capital Port Vila, a trip to this majestic place is only a short taxi ride away. On the day I went, it was wet and rainy. The sky was a cool gray-blue and the rain dropped off and on in playful cozy showers throughout the day. I grabbed my towel and headed out toward the main street from the hostel to find a taxi that would take us there. I was with a group of wonderful friends that day.

There was one Ni-Vanuatu who worked that the hostel, the hostel manager who was originally from the Philippines, but who lived in the country most of his life, a girl from France with roots in Israel, and yours truly. We all piled into the van taxi and headed out toward Blue Lagoon.

Within a few minutes, we were cruising in the countryside. The island of Efate, although the center of the country where the capital is located, has still retained a remarkable beauty worth exploring. Our taxi made a stop at someone's residence.

I wasn't entirely sure what we were doing there, but I heard rumors of needing to stop there to get gas. A cute little kid ran playful throughout the yard, but kept an eye on the strange-looking foreigners that populated his lawn for a while. When all was ready, we piled into the van once more and hit the road.

I absolutely love this awe-inspiring country.

I laid down on the seat for a quick power nap. Within a few minutes, we were transported into a tropical paradise. The idyllic greens and glowing blues danced in harmony while blowing side to side and rippling wide as the warm winds and rain played the notes of a song to give life. The glowing substance was magical. The verdant backdrop was cuddling.

I absolutely love the flora.

We were pumped. We all separate from a moment and explored the area, getting pictures and scoping out the environs. Children were playing in the water, carefree and enjoying the day. As the rain picked up, we all collected temporarily under a shed, eating coconut and excitedly chatting about the lagoon. As the rain subsided once more, we went over to the changing rooms and prepared ourselves for the water.

ROPE SWINGS!

ROPE SWINGS!

Uh-oh a rope swing, it was about to get fun. We all took various turns jumping into the lagoon. A swoop, then a splash into the warm blue pool. We waded and played in the lagoon for hours before heading to the nearby Eton beach. We spent an exceptional day at one of the most unique treasures of the paradisiacal island nation of Vanuatu.
