The best way to describe Vanuatu is intense adventure. It's one of my favorite Oceanic destinations. Extraordinary waterfalls, serene beaches, tropical fish filled snorkeling spots, mystical blue holes, and to top it all ACTIVE VOLCANOES! The people are really welcoming and boast a wide variety of interesting cultural traditions. Vanuatu is also a hot spot of intense linguistic diversity with 133 known languages. Vanuatu is not yet a major tourist spot (especially outside of Efate and Tanna), but it's starting to pick up so I'd get there as soon as possible if you want to carve out your own unique Oceanic experience.
A Day Out in Port Vila
My first week in Vanuatu was one of the most amazing parts of my round the world trip. Swaying to the lilt of string band music as a passed through the airport terminal, I entered the first of many archipelagic islands of the South Pacific.
Blue Lagoon
My visit to Blue Lagoon is one of the most memorable experiences I have from my time in Vanuatu. Conveniently located right outside the capital Port Vila, a trip to this majestic place is only a short taxi ride away. On the day I went, it was wet and rainy. The sky was a cool gray-blue and the rain dropped off and on in playful cozy showers throughout the day. I grabbed my towel and headed out toward the main street from the hostel to find a taxi that would take us there. I was with a group of wonderful friends that day.
